February 2009 The Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture Valeri Tsvetanov visited the United Kingdom as a guest of Bio Bulgaria Development Company.

After a meeting in Parliament with Dr Denis MacShane MP (former Minister for Europe) and Lord Razzall the Liberal Democrat spokesman on trade and industry, the Bulgarian Minister travelled to Gloucestershire to visit the Royal Agricultural College Cirencester and the Prince of Wales’s organic Duchy farm at Highgrove.

Mr Tsvetanov was accompanied by Mr Graham Watson MEP who is the the leader of the Alliance of Liberal Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the European Parliament. Mr Watson’s constituency includes Cirencester and the Highgrove home farm.












Despite the snowy conditions the delegation saw the organic dairy and beef cattle. Mr David Wilson who is the manager of the farm discussed with the Bulgarian Minister the methodologies employed on organic forage production and on cattle breeding. The Minister expressed strong interest and enthusiasm for the approach taken on the farm to animal welfare and farming methods. It is hoped that the expertise developed on the farm could be replicated in Bulgaria.

At a lunch with key figures from the Royal Agriculture including the Principal, and Dr Richard Baines,the Minister expressed his enthusiasm for what he had seen in England and his vision for the development of practical training and educational models that could be validated by the Royal College and which could assist Bulgarian farmers.

The Minister thanked Graham Watson MEP, Patrick Newman of Bio Bulgaria Development Company, David Wilson from the Duchy Farm and Dr Richard Baines from the Royal College for arranging an informative and enjoyable visit.










BBDC attends 17th World Simmenthal Congress 29th June 2008

The Company has decided to use the efficient dual purpose beef/milk Fleckvieh Simmenthal breed in its organic enterprise in Bulgaria. Already more than 500,000 Simmenthals have been exported to Russia, and emerging markets in Croatia, Czech Republic and elsewhere are looking to the robust Simmenthal Fleckvieh to build up new national herds.

BBDC discussed future opportunities in Bulgaria with world class Simmenthal breeders. The breed offers strength, longevity and would work well in the Bulgarian climate.







Letter of Support from Minister of Agriculture 13th December 2007

The Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture issued a letter of support to Bio Bulgaria Development Company Ltd emphasizing that the Ministry planned by 2013 that at least 8% of usable agriculture land in Bulgaria be cultuvated according to organic principles. The letter confirmed that the plans for production of organic milk by BBDC were supported by the Ministry, and expressed readiness to do whatever the Ministry could do to support a successful establishment of the venture. The letter was signed by the then the Minister.

Bulgarian experts are going to be overqualified in the filed of organic production. Information about the land plots eligible for developing organic agriculture will be given by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Supply, Minister Kabil stated.

Till 2013 Bulgaria has to cultivate 8 % of the whole land territory and will receive subsidies by the Rural Development Program, the Minister also reminded.

The HM Ambassador of United Kingdom Mr Jeremy Hill was also during the meeting.
